Aim: to make and erupt a volcano via chemical reaction.
Hypothesis: I think the volcano will erupt when we mix the chemicals.
Equipment: Our Volcano, Baking soda, vinegar, food colouring, dish washing liquid
Method: Make a volcano, paint the volcano, make the volcano erupt, clean up after.
- warm water
- liquid dish washing detergent
- red or orange food colouring
- baking soda
- vinegar
- Pour warm water into the volcano until it is 1/2 to 3/4 of the way full.
- Add several drops of food colouring.
- Add a squirt of detergent. This helps the ‘lava’ foam up and flow.
- Add a couple of spoonfuls of baking soda.
- When you are ready to start the eruption, pour vinegar into your volcano.
- You can recharge the volcano with more baking soda and vinegar.
